Domaine Philippe Alliet Chinon Rouge 2023 750ml
Father-son duo Philippe and Pierre Alliet own a small domaine in Cravant-les-Côteaux, known for producing some of the finest Cabernet Franc vineyards in the Loire Valley. Regarded by many as one of the best producers in Chinon, the Alliets are part of a new generation of Loire winemakers committed to low yields, optimal fruit ripeness, and meticulous vineyard management.
From their 12-hectare estate, they offer an impressive selection of 100% Cabernet Franc wines, including:
- A basic Chinon is known for its outstanding purity and balance.
- 'Vieilles Vignes,' a cuvée made from 60+-year-old vines grown in gravel and aged in cement.
- 'L'Huisserie,' sourced from a south-facing limestone slope and aged in 500-liter barrels.
- 'Côteau de Noire,' aged in barriques and cultivated on a renowned steep site recognized as one of Chinon's top single vineyards.
Across their range, the grapes are de-stemmed to minimize the vegetal notes often associated with Loire Valley reds, and only Indigenous yeasts are used during fermentation. Each year, this domaine raises the standard for what is achievable with Cabernet Franc in Chinon. Their wines beautifully showcase the family's exceptional terroir and winemaking prowess while maintaining a deliciousness that makes them enjoyable both young and after decades of aging. This estate is truly a top-flight benchmark in the region.
"Juicy, lively, red- and blackberry and cherry fruit. Approachable already, a sophisticated introduction to Alliet's Chinon range. Well priced. 16/20" Jancis Robinson
"Philippe Alliet has produced a clean, pure 2023 Tradition, offering aromas of dark wild berries, licorice, coniferous forest and cedar, followed by a moderately weighted, tense and elegant palate that is framed by powdery tannins and fine acidity, concluding with a fine-sculpted finish. It's easy to drink, pleasant, and super affordable. Matured in concrete tanks. 90 points" Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
