Domaine De Fontsainte Gris De Gris 2023 750ml
Corbières “Gris de Gris” Rosé:
• Hand harvested
• Gris de Gris is made by saignée
• After a 24-hour débourbage, or settling of the must, alcoholic fermentation takes place at cool temperatures for 35 days
• Malolactic fermentation is blocked
• Wines rest for one month before bottling to preserve freshness and aromatic intensity
Always one of the best rosé values we see from vintage to vintage. One of the first wines importer, Kermit Lynch, started bringing over in the late 70s, and he's still working with them.
The Domaine's vineyards are planted with the usual Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre/Carignan mélange you'd expect in the Languedoc. Still, the secret behind this great rosé is Grenache Gris, a pale crimson-skinned varietal generally used as a blending grape but magical as a rosé. The Fontaine Rosé comprises about half Grenache Gris and the remainder a field blend of everything else, all made using the saignée method to produce a very pale, delicate rosé. Malolactic fermentation is blocked to preserve the natural bright acidity, and the result is one of the finest rosés on the planet and easily the best value.
