Isabelle et Pierre Clement Menetou Salon 2023 750ml
The Clément family has been producing wine in Menetou-Salon since 1560, making them one of the oldest family-owned producers in the region. Located just 19 miles west of Sancerre, Menetou is a small appellation spanning 600 hectares on the renowned Kimmeridgian ridge. This unique limestone bedrock is also found in Chablis, Sancerre, and portions of Champagne. The area was once covered by ancient seas, evidenced by the abundance of fossilized seashells in the limestone rocks throughout the vineyards. With a perfect blend of clay mixed with stone, this exceptional terroir is ideal for white wine, giving Menetou's Sauvignon Blanc a distinctly crystalline and mineral quality.
The Clément family has been careful stewards of this terroir across many generations. Today, the family is led by Pierre Clément and his wife, Isabelle, along with their children, Pierre-Alexandre and Anne. Their approach to creating great wine is straightforward: they practice organic farming, hand-harvesting, gentle and prolonged pressing, indigenous yeast fermentations, and aging in stainless steel. This simplicity has rewarded them with a reputation as one of the top producers in Menetou-Salon, known for their traditional Sauvignon Blanc from the finest sites in the appellation.
