Turnbull Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Napa 2019 750ml
No newcomer, Turnbull first started producing wine in Oakville in 1979. Now with more than 40 years under their belt, their dedication to crafting uncompromising wines of distinction shines through more than ever.
"Is there a better Napa Valley Cabernet made from estate fruit for $50 a bottle? I doubt it." -Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media.
Turnbull owns and farms some of the most significant vineyards in Napa, the breakdown for the 2019 Estate is as follows.
52% Amoenus Vineyard, Calistoga
24% Leopoldina Vineyard, Oakville
17% Fortuna Vineyard, Oakville
6% Turnbull Home Vineyard, Oakville
The blending of the fruit from these spectacular vineyard sites adds complexity to the wine in the following ways:
The Fortuna Vineyard creates wines that tend to be extremely elegant and expressive; it provides fresh aromas of tart fresh fruit and spice-box that shine through.
The Amoenus Vineyard lends a dark cherry core with density and flesh providing a very expansive mid-palate.
The Leopoldina Vineyard provides density and freshness, which add texture and firm structure with dense black fruit.
The Home Vineyard provides fresh aromas of red fruit and provides focus to the wine.
"The 2019s I have tasted so far are fabulous. The wines feel like they have a little more energy, power, and depth than the 2018s. I imagine much of that has to do with smaller berries and higher skin-to-juice ratios. That extra kick of late heat seems to have given the wines just enough added concentration to fill out their frames. Acidities, though, are on the lower side, so the perception is of wines that are both rich and energetic. In some ways, 2019 reminds me of 2010, but not as extreme. Winemakers generally describe the wines as extracting easily, the sign of a vintage that has a lot of natural richness." Antonio Galloni Vinous Media
2019 Turnbull Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Napa Valley
2019 is, in our opinion, the best version of this wine since 2013, which received 95 points from Robert Parker and where he quoted
"their least expensive wine in the portfolio is the most forward and precocious of the cuvées and shows what great winemaking and vineyard sources the Turnbulls are dealing with..."Robert Parker
