Kingston Family Vineyards Pinot Noir 'Tobiano' 2019
Kingston Family Vineyards specializes in small production Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Sauvignon Blanc from hillside vineyards located in the far western reaches of the Casablanca Valley. First planted in 1998, the vineyards occupy 200 acres on a northern facing hillside within the greater Kingston Family estate. The soil is predominately red clay loam with decomposed granite, and it has excellent drainage and low fertility; several of the most promising selections of Pinot Noir and Syrah are planted on their own roots. Kingston Family Vineyards combines Californian knowledge of modern vineyard design and winemaking with a traditional, artisanal approach in order to produce the finest wine possible, with Amael Orrego as head winemaker and Byron Kosuge as consulting winemaker.

Born for everyday enjoyment, our Tobiano Pinot Noir is less serious than its big brother Alazan. Tobiano is a blend of different parcels within the greater Kingston vineyard. The Kingston fruit always has two faces—a fruity side and an earthy side, which are on full display here. Maybe a touch lighter in color and body than recent vintages, the aromatics have a nice “lift,” with a dose of freshness that makes the wine even more quaffable than previous Tobianos.
